# Components:
→ Bread and Cheese
01 - 1 large round sourdough bread loaf
02 - 1 wheel (8 oz) brie cheese
→ Apple Pie Filling
03 - 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
04 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
05 - 1/4 cup light brown sugar
06 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
07 - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
08 - Pinch of salt
09 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
→ Topping
10 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
11 - 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (optional)
12 - 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
# Directions:
01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Sauté for 6 to 8 minutes until apples soften and caramelize. Stir in vanilla extract and remove from heat.
03 - Place sourdough loaf on a cutting board. Using a serrated knife, cut a crosshatch pattern lengthwise and widthwise, creating a grid without cutting through the base.
04 - Fill the cuts in the bread with the caramelized apple mixture. Insert pieces of brie throughout the loaf among the apples.
05 - Drizzle melted butter evenly over the stuffed bread. Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet.
06 - Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the brie is melted and the bread is golden and crisp.
07 - Remove from oven. Optionally drizzle with maple syrup or honey and sprinkle with chopped nuts. Serve warm allowing guests to pull apart portions with melted brie and apple.
